We’re all aware of the uptake in mobile devices over the past few years. Maybe you’ve even seen the hard-hitting YouTube short video, I Forgot My Phone, which documents how obsessed we’ve become with our cellphones. Whatever your view, the facts are clear: we’re increasingly becoming a mobile society. Recent stats show that over 60% of online traffic comes from mobile devices. In other words, if your business is not mobile, you’re reaching less than 40% of your potential clients. Can you really afford to have a website that isn’t mobile optimised?
Thankfully, Google provides a fantastic tool where you can check for yourself whether or not your site is mobile optimised. Just as well, because last month Google announced massive changes to its search ranking algorithms, where sites that are not mobile optimised are heavily penalised by Google, effectively dropping your website off the face of the internet.
It takes less than a minute to check if your website is mobile optimised:
- Open Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test website
- Type your website address into the search bar and click “Analyze“
Google will now take a look at your website, and after a few seconds, will tell you whether or not your site is mobile friendly.
If your website is mobile friendly, great! One less thing to worry about.
If your website is not mobile friendly, then you are negatively affected by Google’s search rankings. Websites that are not mobile friendly are less likely to show up in search results. And if potential clients can’t find you online, you are losing business.
